Egg Waffles (Gai Daan Jai)

Gai Daan Jai (or Egg Waffles) is one of Hong Kong’s most popular and visually appealing street snacks. Made from a thin, custardy batter poured into a special honeycomb-patterned iron, the resulting treat features dozens of small, crisp, spherical ‘bubbles’ connected by a thin web. They are crisp on the outside, soft and custardy on the inside, and are often served plain or folded over with fillings like chocolate and ice cream, delivering a playful texture and sweet, eggy aroma.
