Gulab Jamun

Sponges Soaked in Rose-Scented Nectar

Considered the King of Indian desserts, these are soft, spongy milk solids (often khoya or dried milk powder) kneaded into dough, shaped into balls, deep-fried, and immediately submerged in a warm, fragrant syrup flavored with cardamom and rose water. They are served warm, absorbing the sweet syrup to become intensely moist and irresistible.
