Universo da Doçura grew out of a longer obsession with dessert as data — the idea that what a culture sweetens, and how, tells you something truer than a lot of official history does.

The idea didn’t start this ambitious. It began as a WordPress learning project — a way to actually build something while working through the fundamentals, rather than follow a tutorial in isolation. Early on, that took the shape of theSugarStack, a smaller React prototype that introduced the core concept: a dessert-focused ecosystem connecting food to the places and cultures that shaped it. It was a proof of concept more than a platform — reusable components, a handful of entries, the beginning of an idea rather than the execution of one.

Universo da Doçura is that idea taken seriously. It’s a full custom WordPress build — its own post types for desserts, locales, and the artisan characters who anchor each region, a custom Cultural Influences taxonomy, and original ligne claire illustrations developed for every entry rather than stock or borrowed imagery.

The bigger shift wasn’t technical, though. Partway through, the project went through a full editorial audit — every locale and artisan profile checked against a stricter standard: no purple prose, no flattening a culture into a mood, no borrowed stereotypes standing in for real specificity. Copy that didn’t meet that bar got rewritten. Some of it more than once.

This is still an independent, one-person project, and it’s still unfinished — there are more locales to add, more entries to research properly, more of the platform to build out.
